The Great Shaking
It has been taught for many years by most churches that when Jesus Christ returns from heaven in judgment, He is going to shake heaven and earth.
At this time, the world is going to end, and God will then set up His Eternal Kingdom. This futuristic teaching has been believed without Scriptural evidence and examination.
This doctrine has produced much fear in the hearts of people. The Bible tells us to prove all things, to search out all things instead of just believing every word that comes across the airways or across a pulpit. 1 Thessalonians. 5:21, Proverbs 14:15, 18:17
It is only after the study and searching of the Scripture can the true meaning of God’s Word be found. 2 Timothy 2:15 It is only after all Scripture on any particular subject has been examined can true Bible doctrine be established.
Many people who love God and want His will to be done in their lives are afraid to face the challenge of the examination of their faith in God because of what they have been taught and who it was that taught them.
Only knowing the Truth will make you free. John 8:32 The input of teaching will determine the output of your life. Deception is often hidden in what men say in their teaching and preaching.
The venom of falsehood is more easily received when dipped in honey. John 10:4-5 The Scripture says that knowing His voice is knowing what the Scripture says and what they mean when they say it.
The Word of God is the voice of God. Psalms 103:20 If you want to know what God thinks about something, read His Word. Jesus said that error comes in not knowing the Scriptures. Matthew 22:29
Does it seem strange to you that there are over 20,000 different faiths in the world today, yet the Scripture says that there is only ONE Lord, ONE faith, and ONE baptism. Ephesians 4:5
There are many that are simply wrong. We must follow through with our faith and continue to add to our knowledge. We must know what we believe and believe what we know.
We must make our that our faith is based on Book, Chapter, and Verse and on person, place, and thing. Truth is the product of the process of learning and growing and changing you to be a child of God. Matthew 11:29, 2 Peter 3:18
• What does the Bible really say about an end of the world shaking of heaven and earth?
• What does it mean when it says it?
In Hebrews 12:25-26, the Scripture says that God was going to shake not only the earth but heaven also. He was going to replace them with something that could never be shaken again.
The first mention of a shaking was at Mt. Sinai after the Lord delivered Israel out of Egyptian bondage. It was at that time that God made a Covenant with the 12 tribes of Israel. Exodus 19:5, 18-20
There was a great shaking at Mt. Sinai at the giving of that Covenant. Exodus 20:1-2, Deuteronomy 5:2
The prophet Joel speaks of a great shaking that would occur in the first century in AD 70. Joel 3:16 The prophet Haggai also speaks of a shaking that was to happen when Jesus, the desire of all Nations was to come. Haggai 2:6-7
Isaiah also speaks of a great shaking in the Day of the Lord’s Judgment against covenant- breaking Israel. Isaiah 13:13 24:5 The Covenant that God made with Israel at Mt. Sinai was coming to an end. It was that last-days generation that was getting ready to pass away. Hebrews 8:13
In Hebrews 12:25-28, we read about the Old Covenant being removed and being replaced with a New Covenant that would never be shaken or removed.
This New Kingdom would be an Eternal Kingdom. This New Kingdom would be Everlasting.
Notice that those individuals in the early church who had obeyed the Gospel message and been born again are the “ones” who could not be shaken but rather remained, for they had already become partakers of this New Covenant which has NO end. Jeremiah 31:31-33, 32:39-40
Conclusion
There was a great shaking at the ushering in of both Covenants, the Old Covenant and the New Covenant. A “Great Shaking” accompanied the establishment of both of these Covenants.
Both instances marked the importance of what was transpiring between God and His people. There is no great shaking of heaven and earth that will ever happen in our future.
The New Covenant came in AD 70 of the first century when Jesus returned consummated His Kingdom. His return was accompanied by the “great shaking” of Judgment against Israel at the destruction of the Old Covenant.
The things that could be shaken, those associated with the Old Covenant, were removed at the shaking of God’s Judgment against covenant -breaking Israel.
Now all that remains is His unshakable New Covenant which is the Kingdom of God which has been here ever since and will be here forever.
