Roman’s Road Salvation

There are many people today that believe all you have to do to be saved is to simply believe in Jesus and what He did on Calvary’s cross, and you are saved by faith and are a born-again Christian. This is what is called “Roman’s Road Salvation”. The Scripture reference that believers in “Roman Road Salvation” go to is Romans 10:9-10, 13.

Understanding audience relevance, we can see that the Book of Romans along with the other Epistles in the New Testament were written to the first-century Apostolic Churches of the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul the Apostle was called and chosen by God to bear the Name of Jesus before the Gentiles, before Kings, and before the children of Israel. Acts 9:13-16

Before his conversion, Saul of Tarsus was a persecutor of the Church. He was on his way to Damascus to persecute the Church there when he met Jesus. Acts 9:1-6 It was after his conversion that his name was changed to Paul the Apostle. Paul himself was baptized and was filled with the Holy Spirit Acts 9:17-18, 22:12-21, 1 Corinthians 14:18

The Day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit was initially poured out was in AD 33. Here the Gospel message was first preached by the Apostle Peter in Acts 2.

When asked by the hearers, “What shall we do?”, Peter told them exactly how to be born again. Acts 2:38-39 Notice that it was not a simple “believism” message. There was definitely something that they had to do.

The conversion of Saul happened in AD 34. This means that Peter and the rest of the Apostles were already traveling all over sharing this Gospel message of salvation for at least one year before the conversion of Saul of Tarsus.

The message that they preached was one of Repentance, Water Baptism in the Name of Jesus for the remission of sin, and the infilling of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues.

After the conversion of Paul, he immediately began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Acts 9:19-22

Paul went on to visit over 50 different cities in several different nations on his missionary journeys. He even went as far as Rome where he spent the last two years of his life preaching and teaching the Gospel message of Jesus Christ. Acts 19:21, 23:11 Over half the New Testament contains Epistles written to individuals and Churches by the hand of the Apostle Paul.

One of these Epistles, Paul, wrote to the Church in Rome. The Book of Romans was written to people who were already born again, baptized in the Name of Jesus and filled with the Holy Spirit. Romans 1:7-9 When reading the 10th chapter of the Book of Romans, we can clearly see and understand that these Scriptures are not telling born-again Christians how to get saved, but these Scriptures are telling them how to stay saved.

We must realize that our enemy lives inside our fleshly bodies. Our warfare is against our carnal nature. Romans 7:23-25 God condemned sin in the flesh. This mind must be saved. Romans 8:3,7-8 As long as we live in these bodies, we are subject to temptation, weaknesses, and human emotions.

Remember, the person who has never made a mistake is the person who never tried to do anything. Just because someone has made a mistake, and failed God doesn’t make them a failure. It’s not how many times we fail that God looks at, but how many times we rise up and overcome and keep on going. 1 John 1:9

Notice all the words in the Scripture that use the prefix “re”:

Repent,

Renew,

Restore,

Reconcile,

Regenerate,

Revive, etc.

It’s all about second chances.

Jesus Christ made a New Covenant, an everlasting Eternal Covenant with whosoever will. Jeremiah 31:33-34, 32:38-40, Hebrews 13:20 Jesus came to give His life and shed His blood so we could be saved and receive Eternal Life. Romans 6:23, Hebrews 9:22

Only the blood of Jesus can remit, forgive, pardon, and cleanse the sin from our souls. There is no physical Blood of Jesus anywhere on Earth today.

The blood of Jesus is spiritual and can only be applied through obedience to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

1. Death-repentance.

2. Burial- in a watery grave through water baptism in His name,

3. Resurrection life- being filled with the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Lets read: Romans 6:3-5

This spiritual blood of Jesus Christ can only be applied through use of His Name in water baptism. Acts 2:38, 4:12, John 20:31

The blood of Jesus is available to anyone and everyone who will believe and obey the Gospel message of Jesus Christ.

Romans chapter 10 is not the way to get saved, it is the way to stay saved. God has placed a fountain in the New Covenant, a fountain for cleansing of sin. Zechariah 13:1, 1 John 1:8-9

Spiritual life is in the Name of Jesus because the blood of Jesus is and always will be in the Name of Jesus. When someone is baptized in the Name of Jesus, their sin, whether committed or inherited, is forgiven.

After coming to God, if one should fail, then that individual must call upon the Name of Jesus to receive forgiveness. Romans 10:13 Don’t stop trying; don’t give up, but trust and believe in the Word of God. When God forgives, He does not remember and when God remembers, He does not forget. Psalms 113:12

The blood of Jesus is the fountain for the cleansing of sin that God has placed here for His Church through all eternity. The Temple of God is the body of Christ. 1 Corinthians 6:19, 2 Corinthians 6:16 The Church is His sanctuary that he has placed here FOREVER. Ezekiel 37:26-28

Conclusion

No one ever in the Bible was born again by just believing and calling on the Name of Jesus or repeating the sinner’s prayer, or repeating words of people who said they were preachers.

Stop and consider what sinners did to become Christians before the Book of Romans was ever written. The Epistle to the Church in Rome, or the Book of Romans was not even written until AD 57, over 20 years since the Day of Pentecost which was in AD 33.

The Apostles had been preaching, teaching, and baptizing people since the Day of Pentecost for over 20 years before Paul ever wrote the Book of Romans.

The message that the Apostles were teaching and preaching for those 20 years was not a “Roman’s Road Salvation” message because the Book of Romans was not even written yet.

The Apostles, including the Apostle Paul all preached the Apostolic Doctrine of being born again of the water and of the Spirit according to Acts 2:38.
