Abrahams Promise - Part 2
We established in Part 1 that the Scriptures tell us that the Promise that God gave Abraham was Eternal Life through faith. In Part 2, we will begin to look at some other aspects of the Promise that God gave to Abraham.
In Genesis 17:7-8, we read that in the Covenant that God made with Abraham, He said that the Land of Canaan would be an everlasting possession.
The seal of the Covenant was to be that of circumcision. Circumcision was an everlasting seal of the Promise God made to Abraham.
The Scripture tells us that when Christ the seed of Abraham came, physical circumcision was replaced with the circumcision of the heart through obedience to the Gospel message. Galatians 3:16, 5:6, 6:15
The Bible clearly states when this circumcision of the heart takes place. This circumcision of the heart takes place when an individual repents and is baptized in water in the Name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sin. Colossians 2:11-12, Galatians 3:24-29, Ephesians 2:11-13, Mark 16:16, Acts 2:38
At the end of the Old Covenant in AD 70, the Israel of God was redefined from a physical people to a spiritual people; from a physical tabernacle and temple to a spiritual house made up of people. 1 Corinthians 6:15, 19-20, 1 Peter 2:5
Animal sacrifices were replaced with spiritual sacrifices. Hosea 14:2, Hebrews 13:15, Psalms 22:3, Acts 16:25
The Bible tells us what the purpose of the Law was. Galatians 3:24-25
The promise that God made with Abraham was 430 years before the Law was even given. Galatians 3:17
Part of the Promise that God gave to Abraham was everlasting possession of the land. Genesis 17:8
This everlasting possession went way beyond that physical Land of Canaan; The Promise Land that God promised to Abraham and his seed was a spiritual heavenly land.
We read in Hebrews 11:15-16 that Abraham looked for an Everlasting Promise Land, a city built by God called the New Jerusalem, the city of the Living God. Hebrews 11:10, 12:22-24, 13:14, Revelation 3:12
In Revelation 21:1-3, the Apostle John saw the New Jerusalem adorned as a Bride. When Jesus returned in AD 70 of the first century, He consummated the Kingdom of God with His Bride, the Church.
Through the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we become the children of God through faith and obedience; we receive Eternal Life and become covenant-connected to God when we are born again of the water and of the Spirit. We find fulfilment of Abraham’s Promise of an everlasting possession of a Heavenly Land in Genesis 17:7-8
In the New Testament, we find the imagery of marriage, the marriage of the Lamb. John the Baptist was the first to make reference to this marriage imagery. John 3:29
Jesus is the bridegroom; John the Baptist is the forerunner and friend; Spiritual Israel is the bride. In the New Everlasting Covenant, Covenant people consist of people of every race, creed, color, and language who respond in obedience to the Call of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Romans 9:6-8
It was from Pentecost until Jesus returned in AD 70 of the first century that the Apostle Paul said was the betrothal period. 2 Corinthians 11:2
The marriage imagery is further confirmed by the parable of the Ten Virgins in (Matthew 25:1,5,8,10,13). This parable told by Jesus places the marriage ceremony and consummation at the Return of Jesus in AD 70.
It was in AD 70 at the Return of Jesus that He came to dwell with His Bride and to cohabitate with her throughout Eternity. We see in the Book of Revelation 21:2,3,9,10 that she is called the New Jerusalem clearly showing that She has replaced the Old Jerusalem.
Inside New Jerusalem was the Tree of Life. Outside of New Jerusalem was every kind of evil. Revelation 22:14-15
It was when the marriage took place, and the Kingdom was consummated that the Church entered Beulah Land. The word “Beulah” means Land of Marriage. Isaiah 62:4-5
Conclusion
Now God was married to His Church. This is the Everlasting, Eternal Land that God promised to Abraham way back in the Book of Genesis. This is the Heavenly City not made with hands that they were seeking.
Inside New Jerusalem was the Tree of Life. Outside of New Jerusalem was every kind of evil. Revelation 22:14-15
Where will you decide to dwell today: inside the New Jerusalem where Jesus, the Tree of Life dwells, or outside of the New Jerusalem where all manner of evil dwells? Obedience to the Gospel will open the door to the New Jerusalem for you. Acts 2:37-39
